We didn't set out to sell a bag.
This started with a question I couldn't get a straight answer to: if a fire reached my house, would the bag I'd bought to protect my documents actually do it?
So I went looking. What I found was a category shouting numbers at me. One bag advertised 2000°F. The next one 5200°F. One claimed 6400°F, which is hotter than most house fires will ever get, and hotter than the surface of some stars gets talked about in marketing copy. Not one of them showed me a test report.
Then I learned the part those numbers quietly leave out. The rating on the outside of a bag isn't what protects paper — the temperature inside it is. Paper begins to char around 450°F. A bag can be built from material that survives thousands of degrees and still cook your birth certificate, because heat finds its way through a cheap zipper seal. The big number on the label was answering a question nobody was actually asking.
That's when this stopped being a purchase and became a project. If the whole category was competing on who could print the largest figure, there was room for someone to do the opposite. AshGuard is tested to 1,472°F for 40 minutes, verified by SGS. That number is smaller than what half this category advertises, and it is the one we can actually stand behind. Our bag is water-resistant, not waterproof. Both of those choices cost us sales. We're keeping them.
The people buying this aren't preparing for a good day. They deserve to know exactly what they're getting, before they need it — not after.
